In the future, it is impossible to murder someone. 999 times out of 1000 if a person is murdered, the person comes back to life. No one knows why.
Tony Valdez is a Dispatcher, professional, bonded, licensed. He works for an insurance company. His job is to attend the surgeries of those at high risk to die on the operating table. At the last moment, he intentionally kills them so they may come back and have a second chance.
When Tony’s friend and fellow dispatcher goes missing, he teams up with the police. During the investigation, he discovers that some people will do anything to avoid death, theirs and their loved ones.
This is only a novella which is a shame. Talk about a page turner, sort-of-speak. I really enjoyed it and wished it was a full novel. Tony is a likable sort, if at first we don’t know if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. The narration is wonderful, as if we expected anything less from Zachary Quinto.
Would I recommend this? Yes. I will say its a sci-fi but not a super stretch.
Is there anything I disliked about it? Not that I can…wait, yes, that it ended too soon. I’d love John Scalzi to develop this into a novel.
