Astronaut Mark Watney is one of six people to step on Mars. And in the blink of an eye, he is left stranded, thought dead, when a dust storm forces the crew to flea. Alone without a way to contact Earth and limited food, he must figure out a way to stay alive for 4 years, the soonest another planned exploration might be able to rescue him.
Fast paced and packed full of what I like best about sci-fi, tech info, this is a great listen. You can’t help but root for Mark. How would you like to be stranded on Mars? He has a structure to escape in and limited food, and he’s got solar panels to help him replenish his electricity supplies, but that doesn’t mean this is going to be easy. Mark’s a botanist and engineer who uses his wits and education to combat multiple issues, including how to extend 31 days of food for six people, into 4 years of food for just one. You have to admire his ingenuity an chutzpah, not to mention his determination to just stay alive. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
R.C. Bray did an excellent job at narration. I loved his voice as Mark’s voice. The emotions he put behind his narration was better than just someone reading a book.
Did I like this book? Heck yeah. Filled with a main character who just won’t give up, love the under dog. Anything I didn’t like about the book? Not really.
