Of course you expect something profound after I spent yesterday at the Mad Anthony Writers Conference, but you know what? I’m tired. What you get is a loose overview and the suggestion you should go next year.  I enjoyed the day with two writers from my writers group, met a few people I knew before, and of course, made a few new friends. What I most came away with, besides a request for a full manuscript from the agent I pitched to, was some good insight on the publishing world, where it is, where it might be going, and that no one can predict what it will be tomorrow, next week, or next year. From this, learn that you must write the story you want to write, you feel passionate about, and calls you to write. Don’t write what you think will be wanted in the future because the magic eight ball is only right 1 out of 10 times.

All of the presenters were wonderful, and very informative and I’ll have to say, Hallie Ephron probably thinks I was stalking her. She was great. I had no idea who she was before the conference, nor did I know she was the sister/daughter of famous authors before I bought her book. Ed Davis, who I’ve met before, was a surprise last minute help at the conference. He did his usual good job. Thanks Ed. Nancy Pinard helped me learn to craft emotions in a way I’d not looked at before and left us all with homework.

The best part of the day, besides lunch and desert, I will say was meeting Christine Witthohn, and listening to what she, Jane Friedman, and Paula Munier had to say about publishing.

Thanks to everyone who helped to put the conference on and those who attended who made it so enjoyable. Look forward to a better blog in a few days when I’ve had time to recover from a long weekend. Those who know me, know it was my oldest son’s 22nd birthday and around the conference I went to Cosi and the Zoo. Time to rest. Tomorrow I will send out the manuscript and maybe write up some details of what I learned. Yes, I could have simply waited a day to two for my usual weekly post, but it may end up being more than that and I made a promise to myself to write weekly. Yes, I will still write and post another character description in a few days as well.
